Sulgrave Manor

We had a great time at Sulgrave Manor on Thursday June 20th 2024. Photos and a summary of the day will be published soon.

It’s the ancestral home of George Washington, who was the first President of the United States of America, from 1789 to 1797. His English ancestors owned Sulgrave Manor in the 1530’s.

Picnic in the Park

Thursday July 20th 2023 saw the last meeting of the summer with a get together at Abington Park Northampton, starting at 10am near the bandstand.

Different Strokes Northampton provided a hot or cold drink of choice from the Park Cafe’ with DSN members bringing their own picnic to have lunch with us.

We were hoping for good weather and we were not disappointed!

Firewalk!

No! This isn’t a lineup for the most wanted criminals in Northampton.
It’s the 5 brave participants of the firewalk that took place on July 1st 2024 at Greens Norton Northamptonshire.

Pictured above  (shown left to right) are Genise Turnbull, Rob Ward, Andrew Dickenson, Kayleigh Sparrow and Danny Knights who between them raised the fantastic amount of £2,263.75 for Different Strokes Northampton. I have to say that Genise actully let her daughter, Robyn do the firewalk on her behalf. Isn’t she kind!

Black Country Museum Trip

We had a great day at the Black Country Living Museum on Thursday June 22nd 2023.

The coach supplied by Poynters collected us from the Spencer Community Centre to deliver us to the Museum in time for coffee. The weather stayed fine and we were able to enjoy the various amenities and a large queue formed at the traditional fish and chip shop at lunchtime!

We would like to thank the staff of Black Country Museum for their help in making this such a memorable day.

Ten Pin Bowling

We had a great time when we went ten pin bowing at Sixfields, Northampton. The place has been recently refurbished and looks more up to date, then we enjoyed lunch afterwards at Sixfields Tavern on September 29th.

Thanks to all the staff of both establishments who made the day so enjoyable.

A Team of High Climbers!

A big thank you to The Rotaract Club of Northampton who organised an abseil down the Northampton Lift Tower on the Saturday 20th July 2019.
It was scheduled for a 1.00pm start but because of the strength of the winds the 9 courageous abseilers had to complete the challenge in the INSIDE of the tower!

Mary Chapman & Becks Johnson agreed to do this on behalf of Different Strokes and were joined by our own Rod Packer, himself a stroke survivor and a regular at our weekly meetings.

Beck’s, Mary’s and Rod’s sponsorship money raised was split 70% to the Northampton Group and 30% to Head Office, while the money raised by the Rotaract team went to Different Strokes head office.

Our thanks and admiration go to, not only the 3 brave friends of Different Strokes Northampton who took on this challenge and have raised so much money for us, but to the 6 Rotaract members who joined in this, one of the most successful fundraising events of the year.

Thanks again.

Picnic at Stanwick Lakes

The final meeting of the summer in 2019 was a picnic at Stanwick Lakes, Northamptonshire.

We met in the visitors centre  at Stanwick Lakes for a coffee. There were 15 stroke survivors and family members  enduring a damp start to the day!

As we walked round the country park the sun came out and lifted our spirits to enjoy our “Bring and Share” picnic together. The biggest problem was there was too much food! Although most of us were very good and didn’t eat just pork pies and cake but went with the fruit as well!

Here are some photos from the day.

About 25 stroke survivors & DSN regulars came along and enjoyed lovely weather and we will finished off with a visit to the Park Cafe.

Below are a few photos of the day.
